A grant presentation is not a shortened application with better typography. A funder may have read the written proposal already. The live or shared deck has a different job: make the need understandable, prove the organization can deliver, and make the requested decision easy to evaluate.
Pitchdeck lets teams design in Figma, present in the browser, share password-protected links, and export to formats such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote, Canva, and PDF. That flexibility is valuable when program staff, executives, designers, and funders all need different forms of the same story.
Start with the funder’s decision
Write the decision at the top of the brief before making slides:
Approve $180,000 over 18 months to expand the youth mentoring program from two schools to five.
That sentence forces useful specificity. It identifies the amount, period, program, and scale change. Every section should help the funder judge that request.
Collect the funding guidelines, application, submitted budget, measurement plan, approved organizational facts, and any restrictions on publicity or beneficiary imagery. Mark which claims are confirmed, which are estimates, and which require a source citation.
This is different from a general investor or sales deck. The audience is assessing mission fit, delivery risk, stewardship, and measurable community outcomes—not buying a product or valuing a company.
Build a claim-to-evidence map
Before layout, create a simple table with four columns: claim, evidence, source, and owner. A strong deck usually needs evidence for:
- the scale and urgency of the need
- why the proposed intervention is appropriate
- past delivery capability
- who will benefit and how they are reached
- what success will be measured
- why the budget is proportionate
- what happens after the grant period
Avoid using a dramatic statistic as decoration. Put the source and date in speaker notes or a visible citation. If the number is local, do not pair it with a generic global photograph that implies a different population.
Give the deck a decision-shaped sequence
One useful sequence is:
- The decision requested.
- The community need in specific terms.
- The people affected, represented with consent and dignity.
- The program model and activities.
- Evidence that the model can work.
- Delivery plan, partners, and responsibilities.
- Outcomes, measurement, and learning.
- Budget logic and funding allocation.
- Risks and mitigations.
- The decision, timeline, and next step.
Do not hide the ask until the final slide. Stating it early gives the evidence a frame. Repeating it at the end closes the loop.
Turn the budget into a readable argument
A spreadsheet is necessary for finance review, but it is rarely a useful presentation slide. Group the budget into categories the funder can reason about: people, program delivery, partner costs, evaluation, equipment, and overhead. Explain material assumptions, co-funding, in-kind support, and what changes if partial funding is offered.
Keep totals synchronized with the submitted application. If a figure changes, record why and who approved it. Never improve the visual story by quietly rounding numbers into a different request.
Charts should answer a question. A timeline can show when funding converts into activities and outcomes. A simple allocation chart can explain where the money goes. Avoid decorative charts built from incomparable categories.
Design for live and asynchronous review
A live panel presentation can rely on narration. A shared deck must carry more context by itself. Decide whether you need one version with speaker notes, a concise live version plus appendix, or a self-contained review version.
Pitchdeck can provide a browser link for controlled sharing and analytics for custom links. Use viewing data as a follow-up signal, not as proof of funder intent. Password protection can help with sensitive material, but it does not replace consent, minimum disclosure, or the funder’s own submission rules.
If reviewers require an editable office file, test the exported PowerPoint or Google Slides version instead of assuming the Figma layout survived. The presentation handoff checklist covers the mechanics of editable delivery. For confidential supporting material, keep personally identifiable beneficiary information out of the deck wherever possible.
Rehearse the questions the deck creates
Ask a colleague who did not build the proposal to review it. Can they explain the requested decision, intended beneficiaries, delivery model, evidence, cost, and measurement plan? Note every question caused by an unexplained term, unsupported claim, or unclear chart.
Rehearse likely funder questions:
- What will you stop or change if assumptions fail?
- How will participants shape the program?
- Which outcomes can be attributed reasonably?
- What does sustainability mean after the grant ends?
- Who owns safeguarding and data handling?
- What can be delivered with partial funding?
Keep detailed methods, team biographies, source notes, and alternate budget scenarios in an appendix. The core deck should remain navigable during conversation.
Final grant deck checks
Before delivery, confirm that the ask matches the application, every important statistic has a source, photographs have appropriate consent, budget totals reconcile, outcome language matches the measurement plan, risks are named honestly, and all exported formats have been opened and reviewed.
Pitchdeck removes the need to rebuild the presentation for every delivery channel. The nonprofit team still owns the integrity of the evidence and the clarity of the request. A good grant deck does not manufacture certainty; it helps a funder see exactly what their support would enable and how the organization will remain accountable for it.
